    A wrong answer brings a hint and a second try. If it is still tricky, a step-by-step explanation follows, then a similar question so your child finishes by getting one right.

    If fractions start to wobble, the app quietly steps back to the Year 3 building block, rebuilds it, then returns your child to Year 4 work.

Why is it really free?

WombatMaths is a community-first passion project, built in Australia so that high-quality adaptive maths practice is available to every child — not only the families who can afford a tutor. There are no hidden fees, no subscriptions and no tracking. We do not run advertisements and we do not sell or share data, because there is nothing to sell: we never collect it in the first place.

Questions parents ask

  • Is WombatMaths aligned with the Victorian Curriculum 2.0?

    Yes. Every question carries a VC 2.0 curriculum code (for example VC2M4N05 for Year 4 fractions) along with its topic and difficulty, and the Year 4 content is built on the Year 3 prerequisites that sit behind it. The curriculum mapping is kept separate from the teaching engine, so other states can be added later without rewriting the maths.

  • Is it really 100% free for families?

    Yes — free, with no advertisements, no subscription and no paid tier. You do not enter card details anywhere on the site, because there is nowhere to enter them.

  • How does WombatMaths keep my child's data safe?

    By collecting almost nothing. A child account holds a first name, a year level, an avatar and a hashed 4-digit PIN — no birth date, no address, no school. There are no advertising or analytics scripts, and the app makes no third-party requests while your child is using it. Data is stored on servers in Sydney, Australia.

  • Can my Year 4 child use this on their own on an iPad?

    Yes. It is built tablet-first with large touch targets, and after you sign in once on the device your child signs in with their picture and their 4-digit PIN. Questions can be read aloud by the device itself if your child prefers listening.

  • What happens when my child gets a question wrong?

    Nothing punishing — no red cross, no buzzer, no lost lives. They get a hint and a second try, then a step-by-step explanation, then a similar question so the session ends with a success. Praise is always for effort and strategy, never for being 'smart'.

  • How long is a session?

    About 15 to 20 minutes a day. The app sets a daily target of around 20 questions, then closes the session and opens a review page where your child can see every question again with the correct answer and the explanation.
