Ardi has a bag of mice treats for his 2 mice Ken and Dot. He gives each mouse 3 treats per day. His bag contains 162 treats. How many days will the bag of treats last?

First hint: Work out how many treats are used each day first.

The answer sheet

There are TWO mice, and that is the number most easily forgotten.

Ken eats 3 treats a day and Dot eats 3 treats a day.

so the bag loses 3 + 3 = 6 treats every day.

the bag holds 162 treats. How many sixes are in 162?

162 ÷ 6 = 27, so the bag lasts 27 days.

Dividing by 3 instead of 6 gives 54 — that is the answer for one mouse, not two.
